Examples of Queer Domesticity

Thread, Sanitary pad packaging, wool, hair, sequins, confetti, metallic thread, fabric scraps, old bathmat. Created using water soluble textiles.

Examples of Queer Domesticity is a piece of textile, based on the theme of queer domesticity in the bathroom. Drawing from examples that Al Hill and their queer family have experienced in their flat, a dialogue is created from the mundanity of the queer experience.

The text on the piece reads:

"BOXER SHORTS W/ BLOOD STAINS

THE BATH AS THE SALON

GRADE ONE ALL OVER

CHOSEN FAMILY CHRISTMAS MEAL WASHING UP TUB

EMPTY TRAVEL BOTTLE FROM A FRIENDS STAY

CRAMPED BATHS W/ YOUR S/O

SEX TOYS DRYING ON SUCTION CUPS

THERAPY FROM BINDING

MILDEW MIXED W/ GLITTER

.........ARE ALL EXAMPLES OF QUEER DOMESTICITY"

Al Hill is a trans nonbinary artist and activist living and making in South London. Working primarily within textiles and mixed media. (more info)
